Well, well, guess what. CONAN IS BACK.
This time, finally, a drama series, consisting of 13 episodes.
And having Mizobata Junpei act as Conan is everything I would dream of. Accompanying him as Mori Ran is Kutsuna Shiori, whom I have a really good impression of because of Kaseifu no Mita.
Honestly, I’m not a really huge fan of the Conan anime series, although I do certainly watch its live-action drama specials when I have the time.
What is really kick-ass about this drama is that there’s this whole thing about the main characters being stuck in this white room, with Shinichi and Ran handcuffed together and Ran’s father, being extra. There’s this suspense lingering as Shinichi recalls the huge cases he has cracked overtime, with the criminal forcing them to remember each cases by cases by going back in time. From late 2010 to 2009. The pinch of romance (and flirting) in the drama was just right, not too much, not too little, with the main focus, on the case solvings.
One thing about the whole drama series that I’m very disappointed with is that, each episode is only 30 minutes long. I wish they could elaborate more on what happened and let the viewers see more of how genius Conan arrives at his one and only truth. Other than that, I find that although there’s no quantity, the quality definitely made up for the lack of screen time.
The cast’s acting, especially the main two leads was rather natural. And the romance scenes were exceptionally and unexpectedly well done, considering Junpei and Shiori are quite young.
But I’m glad that they are having yet another Drama Special coming up in April. Oh well, I think for now, the production team would stick to Shiori and Junpei for their lead roles, after all, they do make a good pair.
